On Wednesday June 18, 2025, 7pm at the Simcoe Street Theatre, Be The Change Film Series (BTC) presents a double feature of short films, I AM THE MAGPIE RIVER and THE RIVER IS ME. The Magpie River is a pristine river in Quebec that has been granted rights through legal personhood allowing it to protect itself and all those who call it home. On the other side of the world, the Whanganui River has been granted legal personhood including all the rights and responsibilities of personhood in New Zealand. Please join us to view these two short films that share a common theme and present a possible way forward to ensure the health waterway ecosystems.
